We just spotted something big in our data: TAP Air Portugal (TP) award availability is now showing on AwardFares for EuroBonus members.

While SAS and TAP have had an earning partnership since July 2025, bookable award inventory has been essentially nonexistent until now. That changed yesterday. We are seeing consistent Business Class award space across TAP’s network, including flights from Lisbon to Miami, New York, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Toronto, Montreal, and several European destinations.

The availability is almost entirely in Business Class, with limited Economy showing so far. Pricing follows the standard EuroBonus partner award chart: 84,000 points one-way to North America and 48,000 points one-way within Europe.

Here is exactly what we are seeing, with real pricing from our data.

Key Takeaways

  • It’s Live: TAP Air Portugal Business Class award space is now searchable on AwardFares using SAS EuroBonus points.
  • North America at 84K: We are seeing availability to Miami, JFK, San Francisco, LA, Toronto, and Montreal — mostly on A330-900neo and A321LR aircraft, with 1–3 Business seats per flight.
  • Europe at 48K: Business Class to Copenhagen, Oslo, Stockholm, Barcelona, and Funchal (Madeira) is wide open, with up to 9 seats per flight.
  • Business Class Only (For Now): Economy is showing on almost no dates. This is a Business Class story.
  • Far-Out Dates: North America availability starts around December 2026 and extends into early 2027. European routes are showing from April 2026 onward.

Wide Open Business Class to Funchal at 48K

Funchal is the gateway to Madeira, one of Europe’s most stunning island destinations. At 48K one-way in Business, with near-guaranteed availability, this is arguably the easiest premium cabin award you can book in the EuroBonus partner chart right now. Scandinavia & Europe 🇪🇺

Direct connections between TAP's Lisbon hub and SAS's home markets. Useful as standalone trips to Portugal or as positioning legs for long-haul connections.

🏰

Availability to CPH, OSL, ARN & BCN at 48K

For EuroBonus members in Scandinavia, these routes create a direct path to Lisbon on TAP metal using EuroBonus points. From there, you can self-connect to TAP’s long-haul network to Brazil, Africa, and North America. The CPH and OSL routes are particularly useful since they connect SAS’s two biggest hubs to TAP’s Lisbon hub.

  • Availability: Good in Business Class on scattered dates from April through September 2026. Seat counts range from 3 to 9 per flight. Economy is essentially unavailable (one exception: LIS-OSL on September 10 at 24K).
  • Pricing (one-way):
    • Economy: ~24,000 points (when available)
    • Business: 48,000 points

What We Are Not Seeing (Yet) 🔍

Some of TAP's most valuable routes have not appeared in our data. We are monitoring closely.

Brazil, Africa & Economy Class: Still Missing

  • Brazil: TAP is the #1 European airline to Brazil, serving 14 cities from Lisbon (São Paulo, Rio, Recife, Salvador, Fortaleza, and more). We are not yet seeing award space on these routes via EuroBonus. This would be the single biggest unlock if it appears.
  • Africa: TAP has unmatched connectivity to Lusophone Africa (Luanda, Maputo, Cape Verde). No award space showing yet.
  • Economy Class: Across all routes, Economy availability is essentially zero. Only one date (LIS-OSL, September 10) is showing 24K Economy space. This is a Business-Class-only release for now.
  • Recommendation: Set a Live Alert on AwardFares for LIS-GRU, LIS-GIG, or LIS-LAD. If Brazil or Africa open up, you will want to move fast.

AwardFares’ Thoughts

This is not a small deal. Let us explain why.

The North America angle is immediately actionable.

At 84,000 points one-way, a TAP lie-flat seat to Miami or Toronto costs the same as any other partner Business Class redemption from Europe. But TAP’s availability pattern is different from SkyTeam carriers like Delta or Air France. We are seeing 2–3 seats per flight on many dates, which is better than what most SkyTeam partners release to EuroBonus. And TAP flies direct from Lisbon to 9 US cities plus 2 Canadian cities, giving you routing options that do not exist on SAS, KLM, or Air France.

The Madeira angle is a hidden gem.

Funchal at 48K one-way with 9 Business seats per flight is absurd availability by partner award standards. Madeira is a year-round destination with hiking, wine, and some of the best scenery in Europe. For a Scandinavian-based EuroBonus member, a CPH→LIS→FNC routing in Business Class both ways would cost 192,000 points round-trip (48K × 4 segments). That is a compelling weekend getaway in premium cabins.

The bigger picture: Air France-KLM and TAP.

The timing here is not a coincidence. Air France-KLM is the front-runner to acquire a 45% stake in TAP, with non-binding offers due April 2, 2026 (just days from now). Lufthansa is the other serious contender.

If AF-KLM wins, TAP would likely leave Star Alliance and join SkyTeam, turning this bilateral EuroBonus partnership into a full alliance integration. That means today’s limited award availability could be the beginning of a much deeper relationship. If Lufthansa wins instead, the picture changes entirely, and this EuroBonus window could close.

Either way, the smart move is to book while the seats are there.

Partnership Context

Important: TAP is currently a Star Alliance member. This award availability exists through a bilateral SAS-TAP partnership, not through SkyTeam. If booking issues arise or availability disappears suddenly (as happened with China Eastern earlier this year), we will update this post immediately.

Frequently Asked Questions

Your Questions Answered

Is TAP Air Portugal part of SkyTeam?

No. TAP is currently a Star Alliance member. This award availability exists through a bilateral partnership between SAS and TAP, not through the SkyTeam alliance. However, Air France-KLM is the leading bidder to acquire a 45% stake in TAP. If that deal closes, TAP could eventually transition to SkyTeam.

How many points do I need for a TAP Business Class flight to the US?

Based on our AwardFares data, a one-way Business Class ticket from Lisbon to North American destinations (MIA, JFK, SFO, LAX, YYZ, YUL) costs 84,000 EuroBonus points plus taxes and carrier-imposed fees.

How many points for TAP Business Class within Europe?

One-way Business Class within Europe (including Funchal, Copenhagen, Oslo, Stockholm, and Barcelona) costs 48,000 EuroBonus points. Economy, when available, shows at approximately 24,000 points.

Why am I only seeing Business Class availability?

This appears to be how TAP is releasing award inventory to EuroBonus at this stage. Economy and Premium Economy are showing as unavailable on almost every date. This could change over time as the partnership matures.

Can I book these on the SAS website?

Yes. TAP partner awards can be booked through the SAS EuroBonus booking portal or by calling SAS Customer Service. Use AwardFares to find available flights first, then book directly with the flight numbers.

What aircraft does TAP use on transatlantic flights?

TAP operates the Airbus A330-900neo (1-2-1 lie-flat Business Class, 34 seats) on most US routes, and the Airbus A321LR (lie-flat Business Class) on routes to JFK, Toronto, and Montreal. Both aircraft offer direct aisle access from every Business Class seat.

Are TAP award flights to Brazil available yet?

Not at the time of writing. TAP is the leading European airline to Brazil with 14 destinations from Lisbon, but we are not yet seeing this award space via EuroBonus. We are monitoring closely and will update this post if Brazil routes appear.

What is the connection between TAP, SAS, and Air France-KLM?

Air France-KLM is in the process of acquiring a majority stake in SAS (expected to become a subsidiary by Q3 2026). Separately, Air France-KLM is the front-runner to acquire 45% of TAP, with non-binding offers due April 2, 2026. If both deals close, SAS and TAP would effectively share a parent company, which could deepen this award partnership significantly.
