The wait is over. United Airlines and JetBlue’s Blue Sky partnership went live on October 23, 2025, and you can start earning and redeeming miles across both airlines right now. This is Phase 1 of the partnership we covered back in May, and it’s a big deal for anyone who flies either airline. Here’s what you need to know to start using it today.

What’s Live Right Now

As of October 23, 2025, you can:

  • Earn United MileagePlus miles when you fly JetBlue
  • Earn JetBlue TrueBlue points when you fly United
  • Book JetBlue flights with United miles through United’s website
  • Book United flights with TrueBlue points through JetBlue’s website

Both airlines confirmed the launch in a joint statement: “With reciprocal earning and redemption now available, Blue Sky is officially taking flight.”

How to Earn Miles on Partner Flights

Earning United Miles on JetBlue Flights

When you book a JetBlue flight on JetBlue.com:

  1. Select United MileagePlus as your loyalty program during booking
  2. Enter your MileagePlus number
  3. Earn 5 miles per dollar spent (base rate)
  4. Premier elite members earn more (same rates as United flights)

Important limits:

  • You cannot earn miles on JetBlue flights between Newark and these five cities: Aruba, Cancun, Los Angeles, Las Vegas, and Punta Cana
  • You cannot earn Premier Qualifying Points (PQPs) or Premier Qualifying Flights (PQFs) on JetBlue flights—so these flights won’t count toward United elite status

Earning TrueBlue Points on United Flights

When you book a United flight on United.com:

  1. Select JetBlue TrueBlue as your loyalty program during booking
  2. Enter your TrueBlue number
  3. Earn 5 points per dollar spent (base rate)
  4. Mosaic members earn an extra 3 points per dollar

Good news for status: Unlike United members, TrueBlue members can earn tiles toward Mosaic status when flying United. This makes the partnership more valuable for building JetBlue status.

How to Redeem Miles for Flights

Using United Miles for JetBlue Flights

  1. Go to United.com
  2. Search for flights like normal
  3. JetBlue flights now appear in your search results alongside United flights
  4. Book with your MileagePlus miles

Example

A nonstop JetBlue flight from Boston to Fort Lauderdale in February costs around 20,000 MileagePlus miles one-way.

Using TrueBlue Points for United Flights

  1. Go to JetBlue.com
  2. Search for flights like normal
  3. United flights now appear in your search results alongside JetBlue flights
  4. Book with your TrueBlue points

Example

A nonstop United flight from Washington Dulles to Rome in January costs around 40,000 TrueBlue points one-way in economy.

What This Partnership Means for You

If you have United miles: You can now use them on JetBlue’s strong network to the Caribbean, Florida, and other vacation destinations that United doesn’t serve as well.

If you have TrueBlue points: You can now use them on United’s huge international network, including routes to Europe, Asia, and South America that JetBlue doesn’t fly.

Both programs are revenue-based, so you’ll earn based on how much you spend, not how far you fly.

What’s Coming Next

The Blue Sky partnership isn’t done rolling out. Here’s what’s still coming:

Feature Launch Date
Revenue bookings (buy tickets with cash on either website) Early 2026
Reciprocal elite benefits (priority boarding, upgrades, etc.) Early 2026
United MileagePlus Travel moves to JetBlue’s platform Early 2026
United returns to JFK with up to 7 daily flights 2027

Elite benefits coming in 2026 will include:

  • Priority check-in and boarding
  • Preferred seating (Economy Plus for Mosaic members on United, Even More Space for Premier members on JetBlue)
  • Same-day flight changes
  • Additional benefits based on elite tier

Note on lounge access

Neither airline has announced reciprocal lounge access yet. This might change once JetBlue opens its first lounges at Boston and JFK (expected by end of 2025).

Is This Partnership Worth Using?

It depends on your situation:

Good for:

  • TrueBlue members who want access to United’s international routes
  • MileagePlus members who fly to Caribbean or Florida destinations
  • Anyone with miles in one program who needs a flight on the other airline

Less useful for:

  • United flyers trying to earn status using JetBlue flights (you won’t earn PQPs or PQFs)
  • Finding amazing redemption deals (early reports show pricing is okay but not spectacular)

The biggest win is flexibility. You now have more options for both earning and spending your miles.
