Scandinavian Airlines (SAS) is elevating its short-haul premium experience. Beginning October 1, 2025, SAS will officially reintroduce a European Business Class on all international flights within Europe—including routes across Scandinavia.
This move marks a significant upgrade from the current SAS Plus product, providing travelers with a clearer, more luxurious experience that aligns with international Business Class standards.
What’s New in SAS European Business Class?
With this new product, SAS aims to better meet the expectations of premium travelers and strengthen its competitive position within the European market. Here’s what passengers can expect:
- ✅ Dedicated Business Class cabin at the front of the aircraft, separated by a curtain and overhead divider.
- 🛫 Blocked middle seats for extra space and comfort
- 🍽️ Enhanced onboard dining with flexible options, reusable premium tableware, and locally sourced ingredients.
- 🌱 Sustainable touches including compostable materials and reduced food waste.
- 🛂 Priority ground services such as priority check-in, boarding, and expanded lounge access across the network.

When and Where?
- Sales open: May 6, 2025
- Launch date: October 1, 2025
- Routes covered: All international European routes, including intra-Scandinavia flights
What Will Happen to SAS Plus?
SAS Plus has long been SAS’ short-haul premium cabin, but it often lacked clarity compared to competitors’ Business Class offerings. According to SAS, this change will replace SAS Plus with a clearly defined Business Class product on European international routes. The product name will better reflect the service level and expectations, particularly for connecting premium travelers on alliance partners.
It’s still unclear whether SAS Plus will continue to exist on domestic or long-haul routes in some capacity or if it will be phased out entirely. We’ll update this section as more details become available.
EuroBonus Awards in SAS Business (European)
Currently, EuroBonus distinguishes SAS Plus as a separate tier in its award chart, priced between SAS Go and intercontinental Business Class. With this reintroduction of European Business Class, we expect award charts to be updated to reflect this change.
- Expect “SAS Business (Europe)” to replace SAS Plus in award tables.
- Award pricing might increase slightly to align with the improved service offering.
- Lounge access and blocked middle seats will now be guaranteed when booking in Business Class using points.
We’ll monitor EuroBonus updates closely and provide a full comparison once the new pricing is live.
Fly Premium Benefit: Still Valid?
For card members of the SAS EuroBonus Mastercard Premium, the Fly Premium benefit allows you to book SAS award flights in SAS Plus or Business for the same price as SAS Go, depending on your status tier.
Assuming the new European Business Class replaces SAS Plus in the award structure:
- Fly Premium will likely apply to the new Business cabin as well.
- This could represent significant value for Gold and Diamond members, especially with the addition of blocked seats and lounge access.
We’ll confirm this once SAS updates their EuroBonus FAQs and award engine.
FAQ (SAS European Business Class)
Will there be lie-flat seats on European routes?
No. This update does not include lie-flat seats. The aircraft configuration remains the same, but the front rows will be enhanced for Business Class with more space and premium service.
Is this available on domestic flights within Sweden, Norway, or Denmark?
Yes, SAS says all international flights within Europe—including flights within Scandinavia—will offer the new Business Class. Purely domestic flights may still offer SAS Plus, but that hasn’t been officially confirmed.
Can I upgrade to the new Business Class with points or cash?
Yes. Once the new cabin is live in the booking system, upgrades using EuroBonus points bids will be possible, subject to availability.
Will partner airlines like Air France or KLM recognize this cabin as Business Class?
Yes. One of the main reasons SAS made this move is to align with global standards, making codeshare and interline recognition smoother for SkyTeam and other alliance partners.
