China Airlines has officially introduced its new seasonal route between Melbourne and Auckland, upgrading the flying experience on the busy trans-Tasman corridor. This route, operated with the Airbus A350-900, also offers a one-stop connection between Taiwan and New Zealand, opening up opportunities for passengers to connect to Asia via Melbourne.

Going Back To Normal

The service, operating every day except Monday and Saturday, adds more than 3000 new weekly seats to the Melbourne–Auckland market. This seasonal extension of China Airlines’ existing Taipei–Melbourne route is well-timed for the southern summer and the December holiday season (often very busy). The new route is expected to restore Melbourne–Auckland seat capacity to 100% of pre-pandemic levels, up from the current 75%.

For New Zealand travelers, this route facilitates access to Taiwan and broader Asia via Melbourne, with great onward connections to Taipei. The addition of China Airlines’ Melbourne–Auckland route comes at a critical time for the trans-Tasman market, where limited capacity has driven up airfares. The new flights not only provide much-needed relief but also enhance options for travelers seeking a premium flying experience.

The China Airlines A350-900 Experience

Unlike other airlines offering trans-Tasman services, which increasingly use single-aisle aircraft, China Airlines offers a widebody experience with its Airbus A350-900.

  • Business Class: A 1-2-1 configuration with fully lie-flat seats, direct aisle access, and thoughtful design features, such as personal storage, USB and laptop power outlets, and a signature decorative table lamp.
  • Economy and Premium Economy: Great legroom for leisure and business travelers alike, making a great journe of a short-haul leg.

This service sets itself apart from competitors, such as Air New Zealand, Qantas, and Jetstar, by offering a premium product. Check all the details of our experience on China Airlines A350’s Business Class.
