American Airlines is expanding its trans-Atlantic network with five new routes, resuming flights to Edinburgh, Scotland (EDI), for the first time since 2019! The airline is also introducing new connections to Athens (ATH), Madrid (MAD), Milan (MXP), and Rome (FCO).
Tickets go on sale September 9th on aa.com and the American Airlines mobile app. We’ll keep an eye an monitor/update the situation with award seats once the airline starts selling the revenue tickets.

- Edinburgh Returns. Nonstop flights to Edinburgh will be back after a six-year hiatus.

Europe’s Most Popular Destinations
Philadelphia (PHL) will be a major gateway with connections to over 80 U.S. cities and 17 trans-Atlantic destinations. New nonstop service to Edinburgh offers travelers access to Scotland’s breathtaking landscapes and historic castles.
American is also expanding with new flights from Miami (MIA) to Rome (FCO) and from Philadelphia (PHL) to Milan (MXP), providing more options for experiencing Italy. By summer 2025, American will serve Rome from six U.S. airports.
Those interested in Greece will be able to take advantage of American’s new service from Charlotte (CLT) to Athens (ATH), adding to the airline’s extensive connections to Greece, which now includes flights from four U.S. cities.
For the first time, American will also connect Chicago (ORD) to Madrid (MAD), opening up more travel opportunities to Spain and beyond.

More Access to Asia in 2025
Not only is American expanding its European service, but the airline will also increase capacity on key routes to Asia. Starting next summer, larger aircraft will operate on flights from Dallas-Fort Worth (DFW) and Los Angeles (LAX) to Japan, providing more premium seats and greater access to Tokyo. American’s codeshare partners also offer connections to over 30 destinations in the region.
