On a recent trip out of Tokyo Haneda (HND) airport, I had a chance to visit the Delta Sky Club for the first time. Their lounge in Tokyo is actually the only international location offered by Delta, and it might be one of the best Delta Sky Club lounges I’ve visited.
Access
The lounge is located in the International (T3) terminal at Haneda. After passing through immigration, it is located on the 5th floor, to the left of the terminal, just before gate 147.
My first impressions were good, and there was no queue to enter (unlike most locations in the USA). As with all Delta Sky Clubs, there are several ways to gain access. For example, I was flying on an international flight with Delta or a SkyTeam partner in a premium cabin, having a paid membership or through a credit card. In my case, I was able to use the lounge since I was traveling in Delta’s premium cabin, Delta One Suites. Note that Delta Sky Clubs have a 3-hour access policy, which means you can enter the lounge a maximum of 3 hours before your departure time (unless you’re on a layover).
Seating and Amenities
I arrived a couple of hours before my departure and it was actually very busy in the lounge (but there were still seats available). It must have been due to several Asian SkyTeam carriers that were about to depart, because it cleared out quite a bit later during my stay.
The lounge is fairly long and narrow, but offers plenty of seating options. There’s a bar near the entrance, a buffet area in the middle, and a small “work area” at the other end. There were large gender-specific restrooms, and several shower suites available as well.
Food
Since I hadn’t had any lunch before arriving, I started with visit with a meal. Besides the regular buffet offering a large selection of food and snacks, one of the food highlights for this lounge is definitely the made-to-order noodle-bar. On the day of my visit they were offering Miso Ramen and Dandan Noodles. I decided to try the dan dan noodles, which were very tasty.
While I was eating my noodles, the lounge staff came around with a trolly offering “yakitori” (chicken skewers) and “takoyaki” (battered octopus balls). This seemed to be a unique occurrence, mentioning that this was a summer festival celebration.
Another special item I discovered later was “kakigori” (shaved ice). The very nice bar staff made it to order in the bar, and you could choose from several different flavors. I tried the melon flavor, which was really nice and refreshing.
Shower
After a nice lunch, I decided to take a much-needed shower. Especially in the hot and humid Japanese summer weather, taking a shower and feeling refreshed before boarding a long-haul flight is very nice. Once again, there was no queue, and I could grab a shower room right away, which was very nice (the ANA lounges are infamous for having long queues to use the showers). The shower room was large, had a Japanese-style toilet, and offered some basic amenities, including a toothbrush.
Lounge and Work
For the rest of my time in the lounge I sat by the windows, overlooking the apron below, enjoyed the views and got some work done. The lounge staff was almost on-par with the type of service you’d expect at a First class lounge. They were constantly walking around, offering chips, snacks and other treats, asking if anyone needed anything. There was always staff available throughout the lounge, and they said hello, welcome, and goodbye to every guest!
Conclusion
This is probably one of the best lounges at HND airport. Of course, the food and drink selection is at a different level than, for example, the JAL First Class lounge. The Japanese carriers have a very polite and professional staff, but the Delta Sky Club goes above and beyond to offer a genuinely friendly and welcoming vibe.
As a SAS EuroBonus member who frequently flies the SAS direct flight between CPH and HND, I will miss the classic Japanese curry at the ANA lounge. But I’m also looking forward to a new chapter with SkyTeam starting on Sep 1, 2024, where the Delta Sky Club will be our new “home” at Haneda!
